This and That

Written by Margo Maguire in Jaunty Post

I want to be the first to congratulate Robyn on finishing her manuscript on time. It’s an incredible feat, given the short amount of time she had, and the amount of effort that went into it. So congrats, Robyn!

It was 12 degrees when I got up this morning … But HOORAY! I’m leaving for Orlando tomorrow!! My husband has a 2-day conference, and asked me if I’d like to come along. (Well, duh!) Now that we’re empty-nesters - sort of - we have all kinds of freedom. So we’re taking five days and our daughter is coming with us. She’s hoping to check out DisneyWorld, since we never took her and her brothers when they were little. I’m just looking forward to a bit of sunshine - something we don’t see very much in winter in Michigan.

Puppy issues. When is the little stinker going to get over them! Our Yellow Lab (Ranger) is 7 months old and an absolute terror! And he’s teaching our 4-year-old Black Lab (Nick) some really bad behavior. I’m feeling outnumbered these days. Every time I try to discipline one of them, the other one is all over me. When I take them for a walk, or put them in the car, Ranger is so excited, he makes Nick go so nuts I can hardly get their leads on them. And then I lose control of the whole situation. I think we’re going to have to divide in order to conquer. Ranger’s going to go to obedience class when we get back from Florida and we’re going to have to work on Nick to get his behavior under control again.

I just got the cover mock-up for my September book. It’s quite different from The Bride Hunt’s cover - In this one, the hero and heroine are standing in front of a crenellated wall and she is clasping him from behind. The predominant color is blue. It’s good, but the only problem is that the hero looks a little too refined. I think he should be a little more rough around the edges … maybe I’ll give my editor a call before I leave town. The cover for my April book is on my website - it’s really cool, done predominantly in white. Check it out if you get a chance http://www.margomaguire.com/

OK, time to start getting things ready to pack. First on the list - What books will I take? :-) Boy, have I got a great stack of Avon releases!

First of all, that is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL cover!!!! (the white one). Wow!

Second, have a great trip! I hope your daughter likes Disney World, though I have to suggest that if she decides to hit up any theme park she ought to go to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. (Not Universal Studios). If she likes rides. Disney isn’t exactly known for young adult rides and I don’t know how old your daughter is, but I happen to love roller coasters and Disney just doesn’t measure up. BUT some people like Disney just because it’s Disney! As someone who grew up in Florida, I know it takes all kinds.

Sorry–I just wish I could to to IOA this weekend! That would be so awesome. I’m living vicariously through your family, Margo.

    Happy Trip!

Oh, thanks, Margo. It was a tough deadline. Have too much fun on your vacation.

I’m one of those people, Lacey, that loves Disney just cause it’s Disney. I’ve been to Universal as well, but nothing beats Disney for me - guess I’m just a kid on the inside.

  3. Margo Maguire Says:

OK - Universal Studios Islands of Adventure - I’m marking it down.

Lacey, my daughter is 22 and the poor thing has never been to Disney. Awwww :-)

  4. Jennifer Yates Says:

Hey, I am 23 and have never been to either place. I really, really want to go to both. I remember my bro and sis getting to go with my grandparents to Disney when I was about 3. My grandparents told me when I got older they would take me. I guess I was never old enough. LOL.

    Have a great time!

  5. Anne Mallory Says:

Sizzling cover, Margo! I like it.

Have a great time at Disney! I second Lacey’s Islands of Adventure suggestion. If you like Cedar Point, IoA is a good time. :)

  6. RobynDeHart Says:

Oh, Anne, I have heard some much smack about Cedar Point from The Professor. He’s originally from NE Ohio and he swears it’s the best rollar coaster park in the US. Aside from DisneyWorld, I’ve only ever been to the parks in Texas (San Antonio, Dallas and Houston) and I’ve always thought we had some good rides there. But maybe I’ve been missing out all these years…

  7. Kimberly Logan Says:

I’m a huge Disney fan, so nothing beats Disney World for me, though I love a good roller coaster as well. Whenever I go to Disney and I’m in the mood for rides that pack more of an adult thrill, I head for Disney MGM Studios. Star Tours, The Tower of Terror, and Rock n’Roller Coaster are the best!

  8. Anne Mallory Says:

Robyn, Cedar Point is THE roller coaster park. THE in all caps. Seriously.

The Professor’s smack is true. Hey, we Great Lakes staters have to stick together. ;)

My Dad and I make an annual pilgrimmage to CP, even now that I live in Cali. We are pretty hard core about the rides. We got in 30 rides on the biggies last year (we don’t waste our time on the smaller coasters, we’re snobs). We have a whole system worked out to get maximum rideage, and still get 3 rides on the Millennium and 3 on the Dragster (biggest lines). If you go, let me know and I’ll share. ;)

  9. Krystal Says:

I agree, Cedar Point is the roller-coaster capital of, well ohio! I am a michiganite at heart, even though I reside in the heart of the south. if your looking for the thrill of the rollercoaster, CP is the way to go. Kudos to The Professor, he’s not kidding.
    Take Care,
    Krystal
